Honking Ban

Honking in traffic is a biggest pollution in Chennai City and for that matter the entire country. Govt of Tamil Nadu and Chennai Corporation should pass a law that bans Honking while driving unless it is emergency. Repeated Honkers should be penalized by revoking their driving license. If you try to travel in Mount Road in the morning rush hour you could only hear horns piped from all kind of vehicles. some call taxis and cabs even have high decibel horns which causes hyper tension to fellow travelers.

Noise Pollution study conducted by IIT Madras can be found here

As a citizen of the Great State of Tamil Nadu, we can be part of a solution for this problem. We need to create a better place for our children and grand children to enjoy and live in similar to the way our fore fathers gave us. I am listing out some of the ways that I use in my daily routine to reduce noise pollution.

  1. Tune your motorcycle or car to low decibel
  2. Never honk in a traffic congestion
  3. Do not accelerate too rapidly which would require to apply breaks suddenly
  4. Drive at reduced speed in residential and hospital areas
  5. If not driving do not Jay walk.
  6. Use subways or foot over path to cross roads.
  7. Plan additional time for travel
  8. Give right of way for pedestrians and smaller vehicles.
These are some of things that i follow but please feel free to add any other things that we as a Madras Vasi can follow to reduce Noise pollution in Chennai.

We as the people of Chennai needs to understand that implications or Honking and noise pollution and start reducing the use slowly. As said is Bhagawat Gita "If you want to change be the change". We as the people will take a oath to reduce the noise pollution in Chennai city and make Chennai a better place to live in.
