Honking Ban

Honking in traffic is a biggest pollution in Chennai City and for that matter the entire country. Govt of Tamil Nadu and Chennai Corporation should pass a law that bans Honking while driving unless it is emergency. Repeated Honkers should be penalized by revoking their driving license. If you try to travel in Mount Road in the morning rush hour you could only hear horns piped from all kind of vehicles. some call taxis and cabs even have high decibel horns which causes hyper tension to fellow travelers.

Noise Pollution study conducted by IIT Madras can be found here

As a citizen of the Great State of Tamil Nadu, we can be part of a solution for this problem. We need to create a better place for our children and grand children to enjoy and live in similar to the way our fore fathers gave us. I am listing out some of the ways that I use in my daily routine to reduce noise pollution.

  1. Tune your motorcycle or car to low decibel
  2. Never honk in a traffic congestion
  3. Do not accelerate too rapidly which would require to apply breaks suddenly
  4. Drive at reduced speed in residential and hospital areas
  5. If not driving do not Jay walk.
  6. Use subways or foot over path to cross roads.
  7. Plan additional time for travel
  8. Give right of way for pedestrians and smaller vehicles.
These are some of things that i follow but please feel free to add any other things that we as a Madras Vasi can follow to reduce Noise pollution in Chennai.

We as the people of Chennai needs to understand that implications or Honking and noise pollution and start reducing the use slowly. As said is Bhagawat Gita "If you want to change be the change". We as the people will take a oath to reduce the noise pollution in Chennai city and make Chennai a better place to live in.

Ban Wall Posters

Chennai Corporation and Tamil Nadu Govt should pass a law banning Wall posters. It looks so awkward to have a poster on the public property and even in some private property. Rather than having posters Govt should encourage wall painting of Tamil Culture and History on the public walls and may be even consider giving property tax reduction for any private individual willing to have a piece of Tamil History and culture engraved on there walls.  This if done would reduce green house gases by bringing down paper consumption thereby increasing number of trees which otherwise would be cut down.

Lets think about this friends next time you want to stick poster think about the tree. We could also go further and boycott theaters that stick posters.

Tell me what you think.

I saw an article in the Hindu today.  I wanted to update it in the blog so I can share it with you all. Please look at how shabby the wall looks. Is it how we want to have our wall looking?

UPA Govt Year 8

NDTV is Comparing Govt of India UPA II on these parameters.

  •          14% increase in per capita income
  •          55% increase in Foreign Direct Investment inflow ($28 billion)
  •          20,502 MW additional power generation
  •          1 lakh crore additional agricultural credit disbursed
  •          $2.3 billion additional revenue generated by the tourism sector
  •          86 lakh tonnes of additional wheat and rice produced
  •          Rs. 30,000 crore hike in social sector spending

Promises Made, Not Kept:
  •          The Lokpal Bill
  •          Foreign Direct Investment in Retail
  •          The Women's Reservation Bill
  •          The Pension Bill and Pension reforms
  •          The Land Acquisition Bill
  •          Goods & Services Tax (GST) Bill

But what is missing is 2 important CAG report

  1. 2G Spectrum
  2. Coalgate

These 2 combined has transhed the India's Image as place to do business. Why is media so biased. These 2 in addition to the previously done

  1. BOFORS
  2. Adharsh Scam
  3. TATRA military Vehicle
  4. Compromise on Nuclear Security
  5. Compromise on Bio-Technology and Genetically modified food
Biggest achievement by Congress in 65 years is Corruption and by UPA in last 8 years is Corruption to unprecedented scale.

If you consider inflation which is at 70% and devaluation of Indian Rupee 14 % per capita income increase is 30% net wealth destruction. If there is per capita increase in income why is more farmers dying of hunger and why is India not among top countries in the WORLD?

If 20,502 MW of power generated then why is some state have acute power shortage? If it generated where is it distributed to?

Here is chart of wealth destruction by congress govt

Rupee Chart since UPA I

when UPA first took office in 2004 the Indian Rupee was at 42 and the present value is 55. Look at the destruction of once wealth in this period. I will leave it to your imagination.

Change T.Nagar, Velachery,Parrys Corner bus stand

Here is another dream project that I think Chennai Corporation should take up . I did not say State Govt but I said Chennai Corporation. There are 4 big Bus tand in some of the busy area of the City.
T. Nagar
Velacherry
Flower Bazaar
Parrys Corner

These places have lot of floating population and people come from different parts or crowded due to other reasons. Another co-incidence in these 4 places are these places also act as transfer centers for Trains.

Parrys Corner = Beach Trains
Flower Bazzar = Chennai Central Trains
T.Nagar = Beach Tambaram
Velacherry = MRTS

How would I want to change it. In all these places a MULTI-LEVEL parking can be build with lower level used for buses. The buses should be coming in from one direction and leaving other direction.

If this change is made then people will prefer to use trains and parking problem can be addresses. Also the parking charges should be minimal and nominal. Since it is garage and closed parking I would prefer to set the price as Rs 25 per hour. Garage should be fully equipped with CCTV and closed walkway connecting Train station.

Cooum River Development Project

One of my wish as a longtime Madras vasi  I want the Government of Tamil Nadu under able leadership of Amma should take up Cooum River development project similar to Sabarmathi river development project undertaken in Gujarat. you can read more about the project here.

What are my ideas for this

1. Implement strict zoning rules and change zoning laws
2. Deepen Cooum River and De-Silt
3. Make North side of the River for Govt purpose alone. I say this because if you look at this in a centralization perspective would make sense.
4. All sewage joining into cooum river needs to be treated and used for other purposes like Lawn watering, Road side parks, Electricity and industrial purpose.
5.Build Pedestrial Trails and Recereational areas along the river.
6. Build a Marina at the mouth of cooum estuary for luxury yachts and boats.

Let me explain this here little bit more.

Presently the Assembly complex (New and Ft St George) are at the north side of the river. Going little further one could see Rippon building also falls under north side.Further, Govt can build a new offices and move some of the departments to north side of the river. Fine, what is the benefit of this.

One of the important benefit of this would be

All Govt operations will be stationed in one area which is huge benefit for traffic movement and some body coming to visit Govt offices including High Court.

Lets look at what departments are on south side of the river

1. PWD which is just south of the river in Beach Road
2. Department of Education which is in college road
3. Ministers House from Greenways Road

I will be adding more as I find more information about exact location of other departments.
